It is necessary to discuss the relation between Meishan cult and Daoism in different historical periods. The belief in ancient Meishan was the witchcraft under the few influences of Daoism, Buddhism and Confucianism before the late Tang Dynasty. From the late Tang Dynasty, under the great impact of Daoism, the witchcraft changed into one technique folk religion, and Meishan cult came into being. After official Zhang Chun developed Mei mountains area in Northern Song Dynasty, there were more and more contact and exchanges between Meishan culture and Han nationality culture, and Meishan cult began to stray from its path, and changed gradually as one sect of Daoism. Under the growing influence of Daoism, Meishan cult eventually transformed into one sect of Zhengyi in Daoism in Daoguang years in the Qing dynasty. Meishan cult spread to many minority nationalities, disseminates to many areas and countries. Regarding Meishan cult as a typical example and researching the relation between Daoism and folk religion, can extend research on Daoism, and help comprehensively understand Daoism and traditional Chinese culture.
