Abstract
The reading of literature by any theory is inevitably subject to accusations that it is a misreading. But both Harold Bloom and Paul de Man, in turn, argued that it was misreading that was the key to clarifying literature and its relationship to theory. In their understanding of misreading, however, there are some differences: What Bloom calls misreading is actually mimesis - based, and thus is an avoidance of misreading and even literature itself, while de Man′s version, which is closely related to the ideas of critique and invention, reveals that theory is an objectification of literature and engaged in the same thing as it at the same time.
