As a case of competing empiricism and rationalism, psychoanalysis oriented film theory has gradual ly been marginalized in the post theoretical reconstruction pattern and has become an ″isolated″ theory. With the rise of post Lacanian film theory and neuropsychoanalysis, and the need for ideological criticism, it is still a haunting ghost in film research. By analyzing the realistic dilemmas and causes of the psychoanalysis oriented film theory re search, and by further exploring the issue of psychoanalytic theory itself as a method, it can make a more objective assessment of the prospects for the development of psychoanalysis oriented film theory.
